How we pick and write the news

Every morning we read a wide spread of outlets, not only the London and New York wires: Al Jazeera, Middle East Eye, AllAfrica, Daily Maverick, The Hindu, CBC, BBC and others, plus dedicated science and good-news sources.

We keep what changes something: decisions, actions, disasters, discoveries, and people organizing. We drop statements where the statement is the whole story, celebrity, markets noise and product launches.

Headlines and summaries are rewritten with the help of AI models, under editorial rules set by our editor: name who acts and who pays, attribute contested claims to whoever makes them, never invent symmetry between an occupying army and a besieged population, and add a long-view fact only when it can be checked.

Every card links to the original reporting. If we got something wrong, tell us on Instagram (@holocene.info) and we correct it.
